Star Bulk Forms Kamsarmax Partnership with Hermes | Mariner News
Star Bulk Carriers Corp. has entered a strategic partnership with Hermes World Maritime S.A., involving a 35% ownership interest for Hermes in two 2026 Kamsarmax vessels, the Star Ellie and Star Bella. This collaboration allows Star Bulk to bring in external capital for its newbuild program while retaining full operational control.
Under the agreement, Star Bulk will continue to perform both the commercial and technical management for the vessels. This arrangement ensures Star Bulk maintains direct oversight of fleet performance, chartering strategies, and vessel maintenance standards for these assets, critical for consistent operational quality and market positioning.
The partnership reflects Star Bulk’s ongoing strategy to strengthen relationships with key industry partners, and it signals a nuanced financial approach to asset deployment. By divesting a minority stake in newbuilds slated for 2026 delivery, Star Bulk potentially de-risks its capital expenditure on these vessels, providing capital flexibility for other strategic initiatives or balance sheet optimization. This model offers a way to share asset exposure while consolidating management expertise under Star Bulk’s command.
