Danaos Weighs Oslo Listing for Dry Bulk Fleet | Mariner News
Danaos Corporation is reportedly exploring a separate listing for its dry bulk business on the Oslo Stock Exchange, a move that could see the Greek shipowner split its fleet into two independent, specialized shipping firms.
According to a filing submitted to US securities regulators on Friday, the company is considering transferring its 15 bulk carriers to a new corporate entity for this purpose. The containership fleet, currently part of the NYSE-listed Danaos Corporation, would remain with the existing company.
Investment banks have reportedly been hired to advise on a possible equity placement in Norway, with the plan entailing offering a minority stake in the new company to investors. Market sources indicate Danaos is expected to retain a strong majority stake in the entity controlling the bulk carrier fleet.
This strategic unbundling, also reported by TradeWinds, suggests Danaos aims to create distinct market valuations and focused investment opportunities for each segment. Leveraging the Norwegian capital market, known for its deep shipping expertise and investor base, could provide a more direct and potentially higher valuation for its dry bulk assets, separated from the performance dynamics of its container operations.
