Wallenius Wilhelmsen Expands RoRo Fleet with $300M Placement | Mariner News

Trust Score: 95

Wallenius Wilhelmsen has successfully completed a private placement, raising the equivalent of USD 300 million, to significantly expand its newbuilding program for deep-sea RoRo vessels. This strategic move is designed to reinforce the company’s market leadership and capitalize on what it describes as a “structurally strong” car carrier market.

The private placement involved the allocation of 17,145,000 Offer Shares at an offer price of NOK 168 per share.

The net proceeds will primarily fund an expanded newbuilding pipeline. Wallenius Wilhelmsen is in advanced discussions with shipyards to enter shipbuilding contracts for four large dual-fuel LNG vessels, with deliveries anticipated in 2030. The plan includes options for an additional eight newbuilds under similar terms, with quarterly deliveries commencing from 2031 onwards.

This decision extends the company’s newbuilding program to a substantial total of 26 vessels, including all options, with steady deliveries projected from Q3 2026 through 2032.

The extensive scale and prolonged delivery schedule of this newbuilding commitment signal Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s strong long-term confidence in the global car carrier market. Furthermore, securing dual-fuel LNG vessels on “attractive terms” could provide a competitive edge, enhancing operational leverage while positioning the fleet for evolving environmental regulations and potentially influencing the pace of fleet modernization across the deep-sea RoRo sector.
