TFG Marine Installs MFMs on 90% of Bunker Fleet | Mariner News

Trust Score: 95

TFG Marine has equipped more than 90% of its global bunkering fleet with mass flow meters (MFMs), marking a significant stride in enhancing bunker quantity measurement accuracy and transparency across its operations. This widespread adoption underscores a strategic commitment to digitalization and customer confidence in the marine fuels sector.

The latest MFM installation occurred on the Storholmen along the US Gulf Coast, bringing the firm’s installations in that region to three within two months. These systems, including those on the Buffalo B414 and Buffalo B304 barges, are ISO 22192-certified.

This near-complete MFM rollout provides TFG Marine’s customers with greater assurance in bunker deliveries, mitigating potential quantity disputes and fostering more efficient bunkering operations. For ship operators, the availability of precise, certified delivery data facilitates better fuel consumption monitoring and operational cost management.

The move also places considerable competitive pressure on other bunker suppliers. As a major player achieves such extensive MFM deployment, the industry standard for transparent and accurate fuel delivery shifts, potentially compelling rivals to accelerate their own MFM adoption to remain competitive and meet evolving customer expectations.

TFG Marine is actively urging port authorities and regulators to support the wider implementation of certified MFM technology throughout the bunkering sector. This advocacy suggests a push towards sector-wide standardization, which, if adopted, could streamline regulatory oversight and further cement MFM usage as an industry best practice beyond specific company initiatives.
