Power LNG Secures Land for Galveston LNG Bunkering Hub | Mariner News
Power LNG LLC has secured a land lease and development agreement to build an LNG production and bunkering facility on Pelican Island at Galveston, Texas. The Galveston Wharves Board of Trustees unanimously approved the deal on October 8, marking a significant commitment to expanding LNG marine fuel infrastructure in the US Gulf Coast.
The 30-acre greenfield development will be located on the deep-water east side of an approximately 82-acre port-owned tract. The planned facility is designed to include small-scale, modular LNG production, storage, and fuel bunkering infrastructure, signaling an integrated approach to local supply and distribution.
This development follows a strategic partnership announced in August with Mexican LNG infrastructure company Ernestas, aimed at advancing LNG infrastructure, including bunkering, at the Port of Galveston. The integration of LNG production capabilities within the facility could enhance local supply chain independence and potentially reduce reliance on external LNG sourcing.
The approval further positions Galveston as a developing hub for LNG marine fuel. Energy firm Stabilis Solutions is also developing an LNG bunkering facility in Galveston, with operations expected to begin in Q3 2028. The prospect of multiple facilities could introduce greater competition and offer more diverse bunkering options for LNG-fueled vessels calling at or transiting the port.
