Trust Score: 98

Malaysian maritime company MISC Group has named Th’ailib, its new 174,000 m3 dual-fuel LNG carrier, marking the first of three vessels secured under a long-term time charter agreement with QatarEnergy. This delivery signifies a tangible advancement in QatarEnergy’s second phase of its substantial LNG fleet expansion programme.

Constructed by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea, Th’ailib is scheduled to commence its 15-year charter with QatarEnergy in 2026. The vessel incorporates advanced technologies aimed at operational efficiency and reduced emissions intensity, including a reliquefaction system, an air lubrication system, and an anti-fouling hull coating. This comprehensive suite of features underscores a strategic investment in long-term sustainable operations for future LNG transport requirements.

MISC’s role in QatarEnergy’s fleet build-out is well-established; the company previously participated in the first phase of the programme through a consortium arrangement involving 12 LNG carriers. The naming of Th’ailib reinforces MISC’s continued commitment and scale in supporting major energy export projects.

The remaining two newbuild LNG carriers under this phase are scheduled for future delivery, further expanding MISC’s dedicated LNG fleet capacity.
