
Everllence ESAL Boosts Vessel Efficiency by Up to 6% | Mariner News
Everllence has unveiled a new Engine Supported Air Lubrication (ESAL) technology, projected to increase vessel efficiency by up to 6%. The company positions ESAL as a practical and immediate solution for shipping’s transition to net zero, offering significant reductions in fuel consumption, emissions, and operational costs.
ESAL integrates hull air-lubrication with air drawn from the main engine. According to Everllence, this approach delivers tangible value today, irrespective of future fuel choices or regulatory frameworks, making it a reliable route for reducing both emissions and costs during the evolving energy transition.
Bjarne Foldager, Head of Two-Stroke Business at Everllence, stated that the maritime energy transition must prioritize reducing energy demand. He emphasized that efficiency solutions developed now will maintain their value under any future framework, calling them a prerequisite for making the transition to new fuels feasible, rather than an alternative.
Per Cato, SVP and Head of Engineering Two-Stroke at Everllence, further underscored the direct correlation between lower fuel consumption and reduced environmental impact and operational expenditures.
This development suggests a strategic push towards ‘no-regrets’ investments in decarbonization.
