Yanmar Power Solutions has achieved DNV type approval for its GH-FC series maritime hydrogen fuel cell system. This certification significantly streamlines the regulatory path for shipbuilders, system integrators, and vessel operators, marking a crucial step towards its broader international adoption.

The approval confirms the system’s compliance with DNV rules and guidelines, directly reducing the certification burden for future projects. This regulatory clarity is pivotal, transforming the system from primarily domestic application in Japan to a viable solution for the global shipping market.

Yanmar has been developing hydrogen fuel cell technology since 2015, commercializing its maritime systems in 2023. Prior to this DNV approval, deployments were confined to Japan through collaborations with local shipowners, operators, and governments.
