TotalEnergies Lubmarine has launched Aurelia FE, a new trunk piston engine oil designed to deliver significant fuel savings for four-stroke medium-speed marine engines. The company asserts that the lubricant can reduce fuel consumption by up to 1.5%, offering shipowners a direct pathway to lower operating costs and reduced emissions.

Laboratory testing, independently approved by Bureau Veritas, demonstrated a 1.5% fuel saving compared to an equivalent reference lubricant over the IMO E3 cycle. TotalEnergies reports that field tests have indicated potential for even greater savings in actual vessel operations.

A key advantage of Aurelia FE is its seamless integration into existing operations, requiring no equipment modifications or vessel downtime. This allows operators to target immediate fuel efficiencies and contribute to decarbonization efforts without capital expenditure or disruption to vessel employment, providing a practical tool for existing fleets under increasing regulatory and economic pressures.

The lubricant benefits from over 100,000 hours of service experience and has secured approval from a leading global marine engine OEM. The resulting reduction in fuel consumption also directly translates to lower CO2 emissions, aligning with broader industry decarbonization goals.
