McAllister Towing has taken delivery of the MARY McALLISTER, the sixth in a seven-tug series of high-bollard pull, low-emission tractor tugs. This delivery reinforces McAllister’s strategic investment in modern assets designed to meet the increasing demands of handling larger customer vessels and evolving environmental regulations across key U.S. East Coast ports.
The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) classed MARY McALLISTER was built by Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. in Maine. The tug boasts an 84-metric-ton bollard pull, powered by CAT Tier IV engines delivering 6,770 horsepower, making it a powerful and environmentally compliant addition to the fleet.
The vessel is certified with +A-1 Towing, +AMS, Fire Fighting (FiFi 1), Escort, and Low Emissions Vessel endorsements. Its FiFi 1 capabilities include pumps and monitors capable of producing 12,000 gallons of water and foam per minute, enhancing its utility for emergency response and port safety operations.
The immediate operational trajectory of the MARY McALLISTER highlights its robust design and McAllister’s agile deployment strategy. The tug departed the shipyard just in time to navigate an approaching nor’easter, experiencing its first North Atlantic storm in Portland before proceeding south.
After joining its sister vessel, ISABEL, in Baltimore for its initial work order, the MARY McALLISTER will proceed to its homeport in Port Everglades. This deployment of advanced, multi-role tugs enhances port readiness for larger vessel calls and underscores a broader industry trend toward significant capital expenditure on sustainable and high-performance assets.
