The LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) RS Atlantico, chartered by Spain’s SUARDIAZ Group from Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), has commenced its maiden voyage from China to Europe. This 5,500 CEU vessel marks the first newbuilding PCTC chartered by SUARDIAZ from EPS, signaling a strategic investment in fleet modernization and expanded logistics capabilities.

The 190-meter RS Atlantico, with a gross tonnage of approximately 55,000, will transport vehicles, machinery, and high-and-heavy cargo for SUARDIAZ Shipping Lines. Its LNG dual-fuel capability provides operational flexibility, allowing it to operate on both liquefied natural gas and conventional marine fuel, which is crucial for navigating evolving emission regulations and optimizing fuel costs.

SUARDIAZ emphasized that the RS Atlantico “reflects our continued investment in strengthening and modernising SUARDIAZ Group’s capabilities as a global logistics provider, adapting to the evolving needs of international supply chains.” This move underscores a commercial imperative to differentiate services with environmentally advanced tonnage, likely responding to increasing sustainability demands from automotive manufacturers and other cargo owners. The deployment of such a vessel reinforces the industry’s trajectory towards cleaner energy solutions in deep-sea vehicle transport.

The RS Atlantico is currently en route to Europe.
