Lehmann Marine has commenced production from a new manufacturing line at Sunlight Group’s industrial complex in Xanthi, northern Greece, significantly increasing its capacity for maritime battery systems. The company stated on Monday that the line has already assembled and quality-checked its initial 82 CUBE battery modules, marking a pivotal step in scaling green energy solutions for shipping.

Modules from the Greek facility will be shipped weekly to Lehmann Marine’s expanded headquarters in Hittfeld, Germany, where they will undergo final system integration and testing before distribution. This two-stage process leverages Sunlight Group’s large-scale battery manufacturing capabilities with Lehmann Marine’s marine engineering expertise.

The strategic expansion targets shorter lead times and greater supply chain security for customers, a critical development as the maritime industry accelerates its decarbonization efforts. This move underscores a proactive approach to de-risk the supply chain for essential green technology components, directly supporting the timely delivery of newbuilds and retrofit projects reliant on energy storage systems amid global supply chain volatility.

Once fully ramped up, the automated line in Greece is projected to achieve an annual production of up to 300 MWh, with provisions for adding further lines as demand dictates. Each battery system will undergo rigorous quality checks at both the Xanthi production facility and the Hittfeld integration center.
