Guangzhou Nansha Completes First Terminal Methanol Bunkering | Mariner News

Trust Score: 98

Guangzhou Port’s Nansha Port Area has completed its first green methanol bunkering operation for an international container ship at the Nansha Container Terminal Phase II, marking a significant expansion of the port’s alternative fuel service capabilities.

The bunkering, which occurred on September 28, saw the bunkering vessel Daqing 268 transfer approximately 300 metric tons of green methanol to the 16,000 TEU Cosco Shipping Carnation. The fuel was sourced from the Nansha Hongda Storage Warehouse and delivered via a ship-to-ship pipeline system.

This operation extends Guangzhou’s green methanol bunkering services beyond anchorages to directly support vessels at berths, enabling more efficient simultaneous cargo and fueling operations for international liner services. The port had previously completed its first anchorage-based green methanol bunkering on September 6, supplying 1,021 metric tons to the vessel Greenfuture.

For major container lines like Cosco Shipping, the availability of terminal bunkering at key Chinese ports like Nansha provides crucial operational flexibility and strengthens the viability of methanol dual-fuel vessels on intra-Asia and long-haul routes. The Cosco Shipping Carnation, equipped with an 11,000 m3 methanol storage tank, has previously bunkered methanol at Yantian, indicating a growing network of Chinese ports capable of supporting these next-generation vessels.
