Ellerman Completes Viasea Integration to Scale European Shortsea Network
Ellerman City Liners has unified Viasea Shipping into its network, creating a multimodal alternative to long-haul road freight across Europe.
Ellerman City Liners has finalized the operational integration of Viasea Shipping, bringing the Norwegian shortsea specialist under a unified framework to streamline its Northern European services.
The transition follows Ellerman’s acquisition of the carrier from ColliCare Holding in November 2025. Since the takeover, the companies have aligned their schedules, operating systems, and customer service functions to operate as a single multimodal provider.
Strategic Multimodal Alignment
The integration marks a shift in Ellerman’s strategy toward providing a seamless alternative to long-distance road freight. By combining shortsea routes with established rail and road networks, the unified organization is targeting door-to-door logistics rather than traditional port-to-port shipping.
For the regional supply chain, the most significant implication of this unified framework is the reduction of operational friction. By offering coordinated schedules and aligned systems through a single provider, Ellerman is addressing the complexity that often prevents shippers from moving volume from road to more sustainable multimodal sea routes.
The combined network now connects the United Kingdom, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, and Lithuania. Gary Cobbing, CEO of Ellerman City, stated that the integration of local market knowledge and networks is intended to improve schedule flexibility and resilience across the North Sea and Baltic regions.
Ellerman, which operates within the wider GB Global network, confirmed that the unified entity will continue to prioritize the development of inland transport links to support its shortsea core.
