Vibo Marina Begins EUR 6.5 Million Quay Renovation Project

The Port Authority has officially handed over renovation and consolidation works for the Pola and Tripoli quays at Vibo Marina to contractor Franco Giuseppe Srl, marking the start of an 18-month infrastructure overhaul. The project is financed with EUR 6.5 million from the Fund for Development and Cohesion, channeled through the Calabria Region’s Development and Cohesion Plan.

The project involves extending the quay frontage to a total length of approximately 175 meters, establishing a new uniform alignment with widths varying between four and eight meters. Beyond structural consolidation, the works include the complete renewal of service systems, including water and electrical networks, rainwater collection systems, and essential port equipment.

Strategic Depth and Future-Proofing

A critical technical aspect of the renovation is the establishment of a nine-meter working depth. Significantly, the infrastructure is being prepared to support a subsequent deepening to 10 meters. This provision suggests a strategic intent to accommodate larger vessel classes or more diverse cargo profiles than the port currently handles, aligning Vibo Marina with broader regional maritime requirements.

Port Authority President Paolo Piacenza has signed the necessary ordinances to clear the affected areas, allowing the construction site to be established immediately. Piacenza framed the investment as a move to restore full efficiency and safety for navigation while making port spaces more functional for commercial operators.

The renovation is part of a wider investment program aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of five ports within the regional system: Gioia Tauro, Crotone, Corigliano Calabro, Vibo Valentia, and Palmi. By modernizing the Pola and Tripoli quays, the authority aims to attract new business to the Vibo Valentia area while supporting existing maritime operations through improved infrastructure and service reliability.
