Babcock and Everllence Partner on Arrowhead 140 Propulsion
Babcock and Everllence sign an MoU to integrate power and propulsion systems for the Arrowhead 140 frigate and Denmark's Arctic Frigate project.
Babcock International Group and Everllence have entered a strategic partnership to integrate power and propulsion systems into the Arrowhead 140 frigate platform, targeting a growing pipeline of international naval contracts.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed at the Euronaval exhibition in Paris, establishes Everllence as a strategic partner for the delivery and future development of the modular frigate design. The agreement covers cooperation across naval platforms, propulsion solutions, and lifecycle support, with a specific focus on upcoming requirements in the Danish naval market.
Targeting the Arctic Frigate Project
A primary driver for the collaboration is Denmark’s Arctic Frigate project. By aligning with Everllence, Babcock is positioning the Arrowhead 140 as a pre-integrated solution capable of meeting the specialized power and propulsion demands of high-latitude operations. This move suggests a shift in the platform’s marketing strategy from a general-purpose design to one with specific configurations for extreme environments.
For naval customers, the partnership reduces the technical risk associated with system integration. While the Arrowhead 140 is designed for modularity—allowing navies to select their own sensors and weapons—the propulsion and power-generation plant is a fundamental engineering pillar. Providing a turnkey propulsion framework through Everllence allows Babcock to offer a more mature, lower-risk technical package to sovereign buyers who may lack the domestic industrial capacity to manage complex engine-to-hull integration.
Global Supply Chain Consolidation
The agreement also signals a consolidation of the supply chain for the Arrowhead 140, which has already secured orders or design selections in the United Kingdom, Poland, and Indonesia. As Babcock seeks to expand the platform’s global footprint, establishing a standardized propulsion partner helps stabilize long-term lifecycle support and spare parts availability across different national fleets.
Under the terms of the MoU, the two companies will continue dialogue to identify additional areas where Everllence’s medium- and high-speed four-stroke marine engines can enhance the operational performance and reliability of the Arrowhead series. The collaboration originates from initial discussions regarding the platform’s adaptability to evolving allied naval needs.
