Singapore’s New AI Ship Registry Cuts Processing to Minutes | Mariner News

Trust Score: 100

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will launch an advanced ship registration system in the first half of 2027, significantly reducing application processing times for the Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS).

The new system is expected to cut standard application processing from up to three working days to just a few minutes, with certificates issued immediately upon completion. This leap in efficiency is supported by integrated AI capabilities designed to streamline the vetting and processing of applications, providing shipowners and ship agents enhanced visibility throughout the registration process.

This modernization initiative, coinciding with the SRS’s 60th anniversary, represents a substantial shift in flag state administration. Beyond the immediate benefit of accelerated processing, the platform’s efficiency could enhance Singapore’s competitive appeal as a flag state, potentially attracting new tonnage by reducing administrative lead times for vessel registration, flag changes, or newbuild deployments. For owners and operators, this translates into quicker operational readiness and reduced soft costs associated with administrative delays.

Integrating the entire registration process from submission to issuance, the system reflects a broader industry trend towards digital transformation and the leveraging of artificial intelligence in maritime regulatory functions. This could set a new benchmark for other leading registries globally.

MPA plans to invite industry stakeholders to participate in pilot trials in the coming months, allowing for testing and refinement ahead of its scheduled 2027 launch.
