Qingdao Port, Golden Island Partner for Green Fuel Supply | Mariner News

Trust Score: 95

Singapore-based marine fuel supplier Golden Island Pte Ltd and Qingdao Port International Co Ltd have signed a strategic framework agreement to develop comprehensive alternative marine fuel supply chains. This partnership signals a significant step towards establishing integrated green bunkering capabilities for green methanol, green ammonia, and bio-LNG in a key Chinese port region.

The agreement covers the entire value chain, from production and transport to storage, sale, and bunkering of these future fuels. A crucial aspect of the collaboration involves exploring agricultural waste feedstocks for green methanol production, indicating a focus on sustainable, localized sourcing solutions.

Golden Island brings its existing methanol bunkering license from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and ISCC EU certification to the venture, demonstrating established regulatory compliance and operational readiness. Qingdao Port International will leverage its extensive logistics network, storage facilities, and customs clearance capabilities across its five major port areas in China, significantly expanding the potential reach of these alternative fuels.

The partners also aim to actively reduce logistics costs across the supply chain, a critical factor for the widespread commercial viability and adoption of alternative marine fuels. The initiative targets a broad spectrum of vessels, including container ships, bulk carriers, tankers, and cruise ships, suggesting an ambition to drive decarbonization across diverse shipping segments.

The holistic approach, encompassing feedstock sourcing, production, and cost-efficient distribution, highlights a concerted effort to build scalable and commercially attractive green fuel infrastructure within the Chinese market.
