Navios Maritime Partners is believed to have placed an order for four 10,100-TEU containership newbuilds at HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC), according to broker reports.
The deal, undisclosed in price by Navios, is estimated at approximately USD 500 million by brokers. Separately, HJSC publicly disclosed securing a contract for four 10,100-TEU container ships with a total value of 678.9 billion won from an unnamed shipping company based in Oceania.
These vessels are slated for delivery to the shipowner in April 2029. The order represents 33.9% of HJSC’s sales from the previous year, significantly bolstering the yard’s containership orderbook.
The 10,100-TEU class is a strategic choice, offering flexibility for deployment across various regional routes, intra-Asia services, or secondary long-haul trades. These vessels strike a balance between port accessibility and substantial carrying capacity, differentiating them from both smaller feeders and ultra-large container vessels.
With this latest contract, HJSC has now secured orders for a total of eight 10,000-TEU class container ships this year, indicating robust demand for this particular segment of newbuild tonnage and reinforcing the yard’s specialization.
The lengthy delivery timeline stretching to 2029 suggests a long-term strategic play, anticipating future market dynamics and potential shifts in trade lane requirements rather than reacting to current market conditions.
