DFDS doubles Italy-Egypt route capacity after Türkiye cuts | Mariner News
DFDS is set to double sailings on its Italy-Egypt route, increasing frequency between Damietta and Trieste from mid-October. This expansion directly responds to rising demand fueled by growing food exports on the two-year-old service.
The strategic move by the Danish ferry and logistics company signals a re-prioritization of its Mediterranean network. The increased capacity on the Italy-Egypt corridor follows recent cuts on a competitive Türkiye service, suggesting a pivot towards markets exhibiting stronger growth and potentially more favorable competitive dynamics.
Driving the expansion is a robust demand for food exports, positioning the Damietta-Trieste link as an increasingly vital artery for agricultural trade between North Africa and Southern Europe. This focus highlights the significance of specialized logistics and vessel capabilities required for perishable cargo in the region.
Lars Hoffmann, DFDS Vice President and head of the Mediterranean business, oversees this strategic re-allocation, underscoring the company’s agile response to evolving trade patterns and cargo flows within the Mediterranean basin.
