Zhoushan Bunker Sales Surge 10.6% in 2025, Biofuels Grow | Mariner News
Zhoushan, a pivotal maritime hub, reported a significant surge in Zhoushan bunker sales for 2025, marking an impressive 10.6% increase compared to the previous year. The total volume of marine fuel supplied reached 8.03 million metric tons, solidifying the port’s position as a leading global bunkering destination. This growth underscores Zhoushan’s expanding influence in the international shipping industry.
Expanding Alternative Fuel Options
A key driver for this expansion is Zhoushan’s proactive embrace of alternative marine fuels. Biofuel bunker blends experienced notable growth, reaching nearly 120,000 metric tons in 2025. Beyond biofuels, the port is rapidly developing infrastructure for other sustainable fuel solutions. This includes the establishment of a bonded LNG warehouse, the commencement of construction for its first methanol bunkering vessel, and the introduction of companies offering liquid ammonia bunkering services. These initiatives reflect a strong commitment to maritime decarbonization.
Operational Enhancements Drive Volume
Further contributing to the overall rise in fuel supply were strategic operational improvements. Efforts to enhance port efficiency, such as increasing priority anchorage slots and extending night-time bunkering hours, proved highly effective. These measures boosted anchorage bunker fuel supply by 19.1% year-on-year, reaching 2.84 million metric tons in 2025. Such enhancements streamline logistics and provide greater flexibility for shipping lines.
Zhoushan’s impressive performance in 2025 highlights its dual focus: optimizing traditional bunkering operations while aggressively integrating greener fuel options. This strategic vision positions the port at the forefront of the maritime energy transition, offering comprehensive and forward-looking fuel solutions for the global fleet.
