Yang Ming announces fleet optimisation plan for sustainable growth

Taiwanese container shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport (Yang Ming) has announced a fleet optimisation plan following its 400th board meeting.

The strategy includes acquiring up to 13 container vessels, ranging from 8,000 twenty-foot equivalent (TEU) to 15,000TEU, to enhance its service network and fleet competitiveness.

This move is part of Yang Ming’s strategy to replace older vessels with more energy-efficient and eco-friendly options.

By replacing its over-two-decade-old 5,500 to 6,500TEU class containerships, Yang Ming intends to bolster the operational advantages of its main service routes.

The adoption of clean energy and energy-saving technologies is also a significant aspect of the plan, helping to address climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition to fleet modernisation, Yang Ming is launching the new India Ocean Express service (ISE), which will provide direct connections from West India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan to North Europe.
