Wah Kwong Expands Fleet with Methanol Bunker Vessel | Mariner News
Wah Kwong Maritime Transport, a prominent Hong Kong-based shipping firm, has significantly expanded its fleet with the addition of China’s first dual-fuel methanol bunker delivery vessel. Named “Da Qing 268,” this 7,500 DWT vessel represents a major leap forward in adopting cleaner marine fuels. Its unique capability to both operate on and deliver methanol as a bunker fuel positions Wah Kwong at the forefront of sustainable shipping solutions, reinforcing their commitment to environmental responsibility and industry innovation.
First Green Methanol Bunkering Operation
The “Da Qing 268” recently completed its inaugural ship-to-ship delivery on January 21 at Yantian Port in Shenzhen. During this landmark operation, it successfully supplied 200 metric tons of green methanol to the COSCO Shipping Carnation. This crucial bunkering event underscores the growing viability and demand for alternative fuels in the maritime industry, with the methanol sourced from CIMC Enric Holdings Limited’s new Zhanjiang facility, which commenced operations in December.
Advancing Sustainable Maritime Transport
Wah Kwong expressed pride in supporting Yantian Port in this pioneering effort, which plays a vital role in developing a robust “fuel-port-vessel ecosystem” within the bustling Greater Bay Area. This strategic move by Wah Kwong not only enhances their managed fleet but also drives the broader agenda of maritime decarbonization. Such investments are essential for accelerating the transition to more sustainable operations and reducing the carbon footprint of global shipping, proving a commitment to a greener future.
