Vopak Boosts Green Methanol Bunkering in Singapore | Mariner News

Trust Score: 95

Dutch energy storage giant Vopak is making significant strides in accelerating green methanol bunkering operations, establishing a crucial supply chain from China to Singapore. This initiative marks a pivotal moment for sustainable marine fuels, positioning Singapore as a key hub for low-carbon shipping solutions. Through its extensive terminal network and strategic partnerships, Vopak is actively supporting the maritime industry’s transition towards cleaner energy.

Building a Sustainable Fuel Corridor

The new supply route involves ISCC EU-certified green methanol loaded at Vopak’s Tianjin terminal in China, then transported to the Vopak Penjuru terminal in Singapore. Here, the sustainable marine fuel is stored and made ready for efficient bunkering. This robust infrastructure is a direct result of Vopak’s collaboration with Global Energy Trading, one of the pioneering firms licensed by Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority to supply methanol as a marine fuel, ensuring readiness to support operations.

Advancing Low-Carbon Shipping

Green methanol is increasingly viewed as a promising alternative fuel for significantly reducing shipping emissions. With major container shipping companies already deploying dual-fuel methanol vessels, the demand for reliable supply chains and robust bunkering infrastructure is growing rapidly. Vopak’s proactive development of this green methanol corridor underscores the collective effort needed to decarbonize the shipping sector, ensuring vessels adopting greener fuels have accessible and certified supply points in key maritime hubs.
