Ukrainian Drones Hit Russian Patrol Boats & Aircraft | Mariner News
Ukrainian drone forces have once again demonstrated their capability, striking Russian patrol boats and maritime patrol aircraft near Sevastopol. These recent Ukrainian drone attacks underscore the high-risk environment for Russian military assets in the vital naval harbor of Sevastopol and the broader Crimean region. The strategic precision of these drone operations continues to challenge Russian naval dominance.
Targeting Russian Naval Assets
On a recent Saturday, Ukraine’s armed forces renewed their campaign, hitting two Project 22460 Rubin-class fast patrol boats. These vessels were reportedly moored near Inkerman in Sevastopol Bay, a critical location within Crimea. This class of border guard ships has been previously targeted, highlighting their vulnerability to modern drone warfare and the persistent threat to Russian maritime security.
Impact on Maritime Patrol Aircraft
The drone operation also extended to Yevptoria, where two Be-12 turboprop aircraft were struck at a repair plant. The Be-12, an amphibious maritime patrol aircraft, is crucial for antisubmarine warfare and tracking Ukrainian drone boats. While analysts note the site held some older airframes, even destroying a mothballed plane impacts the availability of parts, hindering the operational readiness of the few remaining examples of this irreplaceable Russian asset.
These sustained drone strikes by Ukraine continue to pose a significant challenge to Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. By targeting both surface vessels and crucial maritime surveillance aircraft, Ukraine aims to degrade Russian naval capabilities and maintain pressure on critical supply lines and strategic points in occupied Crimea.
