Toyota Europe Slashes Scope 3 Emissions with UECC Shipping | Mariner News

Trust Score: 95

Toyota Europe has made significant strides in its sustainability journey, specifically by reducing Scope 3 emissions through a strategic partnership with United European Car Carriers (UECC). In 2024, the automaker successfully cut over 22,000 tonnes of CO2e by transporting vehicles on UECC’s low-carbon shipping fleet, a figure projected to double in 2025. This collaboration highlights a growing commitment to decarbonization within the automotive supply chain.

Pioneering Green Maritime Transport

This impressive emissions reduction was achieved via UECC’s “Sail for Change” program, which utilizes advanced low-carbon marine fuels, including biofuels and bio-LNG, to power their pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs). These verified reductions are crucial for customers like Toyota, as they directly contribute to their Scope 3 supply-chain savings. This initiative sets a new standard for eco-friendly vehicle logistics across Europe.

The partnership saw nearly 55,000 vehicles shipped between August and December 2024 using UECC’s innovative green fleet. This proactive approach to sustainable shipping underscores both companies’ dedication to environmental stewardship. By embracing cleaner fuels and optimized routes, they are actively working to mitigate the carbon footprint associated with global logistics.

A Blueprint for Sustainable Automotive Logistics

Toyota is not alone in recognizing the value of UECC’s program; major auto manufacturers such as Renault and Jaguar Land Rover have also joined this low-carbon initiative. UECC itself is strengthening its green infrastructure, having secured a bio-LNG supply deal with Titan for most of 2025. Such collaborations are vital for accelerating the maritime industry’s transition towards a more sustainable future, demonstrating how partnerships can drive significant environmental benefits.
