Team Malizia’s Antarctic Scientific Mission on Aluminum Sailboat
Team Malizia, renowned for competitive offshore sailing, has embarked on an ambitious Antarctica scientific mission. Led by environmental advocate Boris Herrmann, this groundbreaking expedition utilizes their new 85-foot aluminum sailboat, the Malizia Explorer, for vital ocean research in one of Earth’s most remote regions. This voyage underscores a deep commitment to understanding and protecting marine environments through direct scientific engagement.
Pioneering Marine Science in Polar Regions
Departing from Ushuaia, Argentina, the Malizia Explorer is navigating towards the remote Danger Islands at the north-eastern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. This Danger Islands expedition marks the maiden voyage for the specially designed research vessel in polar regions, where an interdisciplinary team of scientists and sailors will conduct critical marine science operations within an Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA).
Driving Environmental Awareness and Sustainability
Beyond competitive racing, Team Malizia’s core goal is environmental advocacy and raising global environmental awareness. This sustainability-focused voyage highlights the urgent need to address environmental issues impacting our oceans. The invaluable findings from this scientific expedition will contribute directly to global climate studies, reinforcing their powerful message of ocean protection and ecological stewardship.
