Spear AI receives seed funding to enhance maritime AI solutions

Spear AI, a maritime artificial intelligence (AI) solutions developer, has secured seed funding from Scare the Bear Capital and Cortical Ventures.
This investment will facilitate the expansion of Spear AI’s product offerings, including the scaling of its Horizon platform and the enhancement of its maritime sensor capabilities.
Additionally, the funding is expected to help in expanding the company’s technical services and expertise in applied data and AI.
Spear AI offers an integrated suite of solutions and services, which merge advanced software, modular sensors, and engineering excellence.
Furthermore, the company’s Horizon platform is suited for managing and labelling acoustic data for AI development.
Spear AI also provides expert technical and subject matter support services, assisting in the design, implementation, and operation of AI pipelines and data infrastructures.
Spear AI co-founder and CEO Michael Hunter said: “This investment is a validation of our vision to transform maritime data into actionable intelligence.
“Scare the Bear Capital and Cortical Ventures understand the urgency of delivering operationally relevant AI at the edge, and their support enables us to accelerate delivery to our defence and commercial partners.”
Spear AI’s team, comprising machine learning engineers, data engineers, software engineers, cloud architects, and operational subject matter experts, is recognised for its proficiency in developing and deploying applied AI capabilities.
Their accomplishments include creating advanced MLOps pipelines, reinforcement learning platforms, and decision support tools critical to national security missions.
Spear AI co-founder, executive chairman, and CTO John McGunnigle said: “Our mission has always been to close the gap between emerging AI technology and real-world mission demands.
“This funding enables us to grow our technical services and engineering teams to help more partners build the data and AI capabilities they need to operate faster, safer, and smarter in the maritime domain.”
Currently collaborating with the US Department of Defense and the US Navy, Spear AI is poised to broaden its reach in the commercial sector and pursue international opportunities in the future.
