Rolls-Royce and Guangxi Yuchai expand MTU engine joint venture

Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company and Rolls-Royce are expanding the activities of their MTU Yuchai Power joint venture to include the manufacture of a wider array of MTU engines in China.

Established in 2014, the company has produced mtu series 4000 engines for power generation since 2018 but will now expand its production facilities to produce MTU series 4000 engines for the oil and gas industry, MTU series 2000 engines, and the Yuchai VC engine.

Dr Jörg Stratmann, CEO of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, said: “I am delighted that we are deepening our successful and proven cooperation with Yuchai.

“Building on the solid foundation and experience of our joint venture, we will capitalise on the resulting opportunities and jointly tap into the enormous potential available to us in this region.”

To support the growth of the business, both partners will increase their investment into the company and expand its research and development programme, with an aim of increasing market share and opening up new markets in the region for Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce has been developing its mtu series engines for years and is a key supplier for the maritime industry, including with its development of a methanol-capable mtu engine to support sustainable shipping efforts.
