QatarEnergy Adds Dual-Fuel LNG Ships to Green Fleet | Mariner News

QatarEnergy is significantly bolstering its modern fleet with the addition of two advanced dual-fuel LNG ships, named Sharq and Shra’ouh. These 174,000 m3 LNG carriers represent the seventh and eighth vessels in a series of twelve being built for the energy giant through a joint venture led by K Line. Their integration marks a crucial step in enhancing QatarEnergy’s capacity and commitment to efficient maritime operations.
Advanced Dual-Fuel Technology for Cleaner Voyages
Built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, these sophisticated LNG carriers are equipped with state-of-the-art dual-fuel engines from WinGD. This cutting-edge technology allows the vessels to operate on both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and conventional marine fuels. While LNG is recognized as a leading alternative bunker fuel for reducing CO2 emissions, the industry is also exploring cleaner options like bio-LNG, which promises even greater greenhouse gas savings and compatibility with existing LNG-fuelled infrastructure.
Driving Sustainable Maritime Transport
The introduction of Sharq and Shra’ouh underscores QatarEnergy’s dedication to sustainable maritime transport and reinforces the global push towards greener shipping. By investing in these efficient LNG ships, the company not only expands its operational capabilities but also contributes to reducing the environmental footprint of its vast energy supply chain. This move aligns with broader industry efforts to adopt cleaner fuels and technologies for a more sustainable future in global shipping.
