Paradip Port achieved historic milestones in cargo handling: 150.41MMT in FY 2024-25
PARADIP : Paradip Port in Odisha’s has reached a new record in cargo handling, with an impressive 150.41 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo managed during the financial year 2024-25, official sources said on Wednesday.
This achievement places Paradip Port at the forefront of India’s major ports once again. This marks the second consecutive occasion that the port has surpassed 150 million metric tonnes, reaffirming its leading status among its counterparts.
Officials from Paradip Port have set a visionary target to enter the 500 million metric tonnes club by the year 2047, showcasing their ambitions for future growth.
Coastal shipping and diversification
Coastal shipping reached 59.19 MMT (+1.3%) in FY 2023-24, with thermal coal accounting for 43.97 MMT. The port diversified into EXIM containers (12,711 TEUs in FY24-25) while handling 24 cargo types including crude oil, fertilisers, and steel products.
Infrastructure and operational efficiency
The port enhanced berth productivity by 6.33% to 33,014 MT, while handling 21,665 rakes (+7.65%) and 2,710 ships (+13.82%) in FY 2023-24. Operational improvements included mechanised coal handling systems reducing idle time and capability to simultaneously handle Cape and Panamax vessels at upgraded northern dock facilities.
