NAL Research SGM Tschudi Shipping Company maritime navigation tracking

NAL Research, SGM Technology, and Tschudi Shipping Company have announced a strategic partnership to deliver a robust navigation and tracking product line for the commercial shipping industry.
The collaboration aims to address the growing threat of GPS and GNSS signal disruptions in the commercial shipping industry using Iridium’s low-Earth orbit satellite network.
This collaboration addresses the pressing demand for dependable asset tracking and guaranteed navigation in high-risk maritime settings.
NAL Research president Robert Bills said: “Protection against GPS vulnerabilities is no longer a nice-to-have, but a necessity to ensure operational success and asset safety.
“Through this collaborative effort, we are aiming to achieve complete global situational awareness and increase safety at sea for our commercial maritime customers, even in the most remote and challenging situations.”
Maritime authorities have reported a 350% increase in affected vessels in some regions over the past six months, which is leading to major consequences, such as collisions, delays, financial repercussions for global trade, and increased security risks for crews at sea.
Under the agreement, NAL Research will contribute over two decades of expertise in Assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (APNT), tracking, and connectivity.
The solutions will be built on the Iridium PNT service, which offers a robust and fully authenticated L-band signal that is resistant to spoofing and jamming.
SGM Technology brings over 15 years of experience in delivering technology to the commercial maritime sector, while Tschudi Shipping Company offers a substantial global presence and over 140 years of experience in shipping and logistics.
SGM Technology CEO Steffen Grefsgård said: “In today’s maritime landscape, the threat of GPS jamming and spoofing is no longer theoretical—it’s a growing reality. Ensuring navigational safety is critical, not just for protecting cargo and vessels, but for safeguarding the lives of seafarers who rely on precise and trustworthy systems every day.
“At SGM Technology, we are committed to developing robust solutions that help mitigate these risks and maintain the integrity of maritime operations.”
The collaboration will provide maritime users with reliable navigation, particularly in GPS/GNSS-compromised environments.
Trials of the innovative solution are currently in progress.
Tschudi Group chairman Felix Tschudi said: “As a fifth-generation shipping company, we’ve witnessed the evolution of maritime navigation, but never before have we faced technological threats like GPS jamming and spoofing.
“These disruptions pose a serious risk to vessel safety, crew welfare, and the reliability of global trade routes. The industry must act collectively to address these vulnerabilities to protect maritime personnel and assets.”
