Monjasa BIRE Approval Elevates Cartagena Bunkering | Mariner News

Trust Score: 95

Monjasa’s Cartagena barges, Roma 101 and Roma 304, have secured BIRE approval, a move set to significantly broaden bunkering options for oil majors and charterers in Colombia. This certification officially opens Cartagena as a viable marine fuel stop for high-standard tonnage that previously bypassed the port.

The BIRE vetting inspection success, announced last week, underpins Monjasa’s wider, long-term commitment to Colombia, supported by its vertically integrated presence across the country’s marine fuel supply chain. Camilo Angulo Ferrand, Trading Director, Americas at Monjasa, stated that this increased ownership is intended to support sustained growth in Cartagena, with local sourcing remaining a central pillar of its operations.

The approval is poised to influence vessel employment and voyage planning, as ships operating under charters requiring stringent vetting can now incorporate Cartagena into their bunkering strategies. This development not only elevates Cartagena’s standing as a strategic bunkering hub but also provides Monjasa with a distinct competitive advantage in serving top-tier marine fuel consumers, potentially reshaping regional bunkering dynamics for high-specification vessels.
