Meyer Werft To Build 4 New Disney Cruise Ships By 2031 In Largest Ever Deal
Meyer Werft has received a historic order from Disney Cruise Line for four new cruise ships. The order marks the highest order value in the shipyard’s history.
The ships will join Disney’s fleet between 2027 and 2031, expanding the company’s cruise services while offering families more opportunities to enjoy Disney’s renowned dining, entertainment, and hospitality.
The new order strengthens Meyer Werft’s strong partnership with Disney Cruise Line, which began with the delivery of the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy in 2010 and 2012, respectively.
The first Wish-Class ship, Disney Wish, was delivered in 2022, and its sister ships, Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny, are now under construction and are scheduled to arrive in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
Meyer Werft’s contract portfolio now includes 10 cruise ships, a research vessel, and four offshore converter platforms, all of which are scheduled to be delivered by 2031. Disney Cruise Line’s fleet expansion is part of a larger goal to improve its cruise operations and fulfil the increasing demand.
Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating that it will allow more guests globally to enjoy Disney’s unique vacation experiences.
The expansion will bring Disney Cruise Line’s fleet to 13 ships, adding approximately 19,000 passenger berths to its current fleet of five ships, which can accommodate approximately 17,500 guests.
The new ships will feature revamped designs and itineraries that are still under development.
Meyer Werft’s Bernard Meyer expressed enthusiasm for the continued partnership, emphasizing Disney’s trust in the shipyard’s capabilities.
Meyer Werft’s significant role in the cruise shipbuilding business is strengthened by the agreement with Disney.
The company currently builds two of the world’s largest cruise ships for Royal Caribbean International and has won additional contracts from Carnival Cruise Line and Orient Land Corporation.
The ships will strengthen Disney Cruise Line’s ability to provide world-class experiences at sea, carrying on its legacy of excellence in cruise ship design and construction.
