K Saetre Rederi Orders Electric Cargo Vessel | Mariner News
K Saetre Rederi is pioneering sustainable maritime transport with an order for a cutting-edge electric cargo vessel from Dutch shipyard Royal Bodewes. This significant investment highlights the growing commitment to eco-friendly shipping solutions within the industry. The 3,600-dwt vessel represents a major step towards reducing emissions and embracing cleaner practices along the scenic Norwegian coast, setting a new benchmark for green logistics.
Advanced Electric Propulsion Technology
Slated for delivery in March 2028, this advanced electric vessel will feature a robust 13.3 MWh battery system, enabling an impressive range of over 270 nautical miles. Designed for the Norwegian coastline, it will efficiently transport vital products for steel producer 7 Steel Nordic from Mo i Rana. This strategic deployment leverages existing charging infrastructure, demonstrating a practical approach to achieving zero-emission operations for coastal trade.
Driving Green Shipping Initiatives
Age Saetre, owner and technical manager of K Saetre Rederi, emphasized the vessel’s capability to perform extensive operations “fully electric without emissions.” While battery-powered ships are increasingly popular for shorter sea routes, this project pushes the boundaries, showcasing their viability for substantial coastal commerce. This collaborative effort between K Saetre Rederi and Royal Bodewes sets a powerful precedent for future green shipping initiatives, driving innovation in marine electrification and contributing to a more sustainable future for the global shipping industry.
