India and Italy explore Maritime Cooperation for National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal

NEW DELHI : In a significant step towards strengthening international maritime collaboration, a meeting was held between the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India, and a distinguished Italian delegation to explore potential cooperation for the development of the upcoming National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat.

The Indian delegation was led by Shri Mukesh Mangal, Joint Secretary, MoPSW, while the Italian side was headed by Mr. Antonio Bartoli, Ambassador of Italy in India.

The discussions centered around core areas of collaboration including content development, advanced museum design, and the exchange of historical knowledge to highlight ancient maritime linkages between India and Italy. The meeting marked a shared vision to promote maritime heritage and foster cultural and technological synergies through the NMHC, which is envisioned as a world-class maritime museum and knowledge center.

This strategic dialogue reflects India’s growing efforts to engage with global partners in preserving and showcasing its rich maritime history and civilizational linkages.
