HD KSOE Secures $1.45bn HMM Container Ship Deal
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has finalized a substantial **shipbuilding contract** worth $1.456 billion with global shipping giant HMM. This landmark agreement involves the construction of eight advanced **container ships**, marking a significant boost for both companies and the maritime industry. Each vessel will boast an impressive capacity of 13,400 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), reinforcing HMM’s fleet capabilities.
Next-Gen Container Vessel Design
These state-of-the-art **marine vessels** are designed with impressive specifications, measuring 337 meters in length, 51 meters in width, and 27.9 meters in height. Production will be split between HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, which will build two ships, and HD Hyundai Samho, responsible for six. This strategic allocation leverages the expertise across HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding divisions in South Korea.
Boosting Efficiency with LNG Dual-Fuel Technology
A key feature of these new **container ships** is their integration of liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel engines, coupled with a fuel tank approximately 50% larger than standard versions. This innovative technology significantly enhances **operational efficiency** and reduces emissions, supporting more sustainable shipping practices. Deliveries are projected to commence sequentially, continuing through the first half of 2029, promising a future-ready fleet for HMM. The contract solidifies HD KSOE’s position as a leading shipbuilder, with 69 container ship orders this year.
