HD Korea Shipbuilding (HD KSOE) has announced a significant newbuild contract, securing an order to construct a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) for an undisclosed European shipowner. This substantial deal, valued at KRW 175.8 billion (approximately $121.4 million), underscores HD KSOE’s prominent position in the global shipbuilding market. The advanced gas carrier, crucial for efficient energy transport, is slated for delivery in the first half of 2028, further strengthening the company’s robust order book.
This state-of-the-art vessel will be constructed by HD Hyundai Samho, a subsidiary renowned for its shipbuilding excellence. While specific technical details, including its propulsion system, remain undisclosed, this contract highlights the ongoing demand for sophisticated vessels capable of transporting liquefied gases across international waters, vital for global energy supply chains and the maritime industry.
HD KSOE’s Strong Order Book Performance
Including this latest VLGC order, HD Korea Shipbuilding has successfully secured five newbuild contracts this year, accumulating a combined value of $1.16 billion. This impressive figure already represents approximately 5% of its ambitious full-year order target of $23.31 billion. The diverse orders include four LNG carriers and one LPG/ammonia carrier, showcasing HD KSOE’s versatility and expertise across various segments of the gas transport sector. These strategic contracts reinforce HD KSOE’s leadership, delivering high-quality, specialized vessels for global shipping and energy demands.
