This substantial contract, awarded by Angolan shipping company Sonangol Shipping, underscores the growing demand for specialized natural gas transportation vessels. The deal reinforces HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering’s leadership in advanced vessel construction.

Contract Details and Delivery

This new liquefied natural gas carrier will be constructed at HD Hyundai Samho, known for its advanced shipbuilding capabilities. Scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2028, the vessel highlights continued investment in efficient energy transport within the shipping sector, expanding Sonangol’s fleet. The contract is valued at 357.5 billion South Korean won.

Progress Towards Annual Targets

With this latest shipping contract, HD Korea Shipbuilding has made significant strides toward its annual financial goals. The company has secured orders for 12 vessels, totaling $1.93 billion this year, representing 8.3% of its ambitious $23.31 billion target. This demonstrates strong market performance, with diverse orders including five LNG carriers, three LPG/ammonia carriers, two crude oil tankers, and two product carriers.
