
HD Hyundai Secures $1.46B Ultra-Large Container Ship Order
HD Hyundai has secured a landmark $1.46 billion order for eight ultra-large container ships, marking a significant milestone in the global shipbuilding industry. This monumental contract for 13,400-TEU dual-fuel vessels represents HD Hyundai’s largest container ship order in 18 years, underscoring robust demand for advanced maritime transport solutions. The deal, signed with HMM by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), solidifies the company’s leading position.
Record-Breaking Shipbuilding Contract
The $1.456 billion contract involves the construction of eight advanced vessels, each measuring 337 meters in length. These ships will be equipped with state-of-the-art LNG dual-fuel engines and boast a 50% enlarged fuel tank, greatly enhancing operational efficiency and range. Production will be split between HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (two ships) and HD Hyundai Samho (six ships), with deliveries slated progressively through the first half of 2029.
