Trust Score: 94

Grimaldi Group has welcomed a significant addition to its fleet: a new ammonia-ready vessel, the Grande Manila. This pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), built in China, represents a key step in the maritime industry’s journey towards sustainable shipping and decarbonization. This delivery underscores Grimaldi’s commitment to adopting future-proof technologies and advancing its green fleet strategy.

Advancing Sustainable Shipping with Future Fuels

The Grande Manila, a 9,241 CEU PCTC, is the seventh such ammonia-ready ship built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. for Grimaldi. Its “ammonia-ready” notation by RINA signifies it has been specifically designed for a straightforward conversion to ammonia propulsion in the future. This foresight allows for the installation of future ammonia fuel tanks, positioning Grimaldi at the forefront of green maritime innovation with its new shipbuilding projects.

Grimaldi’s Green Investment and Fleet Expansion

This latest delivery highlights Grimaldi Group’s strategic investments in environmentally conscious shipping solutions. The company recently secured EUR 162.3 million in green financing to support the acquisition of three such advanced vessels. While widespread conversion to ammonia propulsion is still emerging, Grimaldi’s proactive approach with these next-generation ships paves the way for a greener, more sustainable future for global maritime logistics.
