Grimaldi Newbuilds Get Silverstream Air Lubrication | Mariner News

Trust Score: 95

Silverstream Technologies will equip Grimaldi Group’s new RoPax vessels with its advanced Air Lubrication Systems, marking a significant step towards sustainable shipping. This partnership involves nine newbuilds from China Merchants Industry Weihai Shipyard, designed for enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced maritime emissions. Both companies reinforce their commitment to greener operations.

Optimizing Performance and Emissions

The Silverstream® System creates a carpet of microbubbles beneath the hull, reducing frictional resistance. This innovative process directly lowers bunker fuel consumption and cuts harmful emissions. Grimaldi Group reports impressive 5-6% net fuel savings on similar vessels, proving the economic and environmental benefits of this eco-friendly technology.

Expanding Sustainable Fleets

This nine-ship deal is Silverstream’s largest RoPax order yet, expanding its long-standing collaboration with Grimaldi, active since 2018. This brings total Grimaldi vessels with Silverstream technology to 35 units. Installations across Grimaldi Lines, Minoan Lines, and Finnlines highlight the industry’s trend towards efficiency solutions for carbon intensity goals.

The deployment of these Air Lubrication Systems on Grimaldi’s newbuilds is a pivotal step in the shipping industry’s decarbonization. Such marine technologies are crucial for minimizing environmental impact, fostering a more sustainable future for global sea transport.
