Golden Island Delivers B100 Biofuel to Maersk in Singapore | Mariner News

Trust Score: 95

Golden Island, a prominent marine fuel supplier, has made a significant stride in sustainable shipping by providing B100 biofuel to Maersk container vessels in Singapore. This pivotal initiative highlights the maritime industry’s increasing dedication to embracing cleaner energy solutions. This development firmly establishes Singapore as a frontrunner in green bunkering efforts, fostering environmental progress within the global shipping sector.

Golden Island’s Biofuel Deliveries to Maersk

The successful deliveries saw the Estelle Maersk and Maersk Amazon receive substantial stems of 900 metric tons and 2,900 metric tons of B100 marine biofuel, respectively, throughout October and November. This pure biofuel, meticulously derived from 100% used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME), represents a crucial advancement in reducing carbon emissions. Golden Island efficiently carried out these essential bunkering operations utilizing its specialized type-2 chemical bunker tanker, the Golden Sirius.

Expanding Green Bunkering Capabilities

Although B100 biofuel currently accounts for a smaller segment of Singapore’s total bunker sales, these supplies from Golden Island indicate a clear trend towards broader adoption of sustainable fuels. Moreover, Golden Island recently obtained a methanol bunkering license from the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA), effective January 1. This strategic expansion will enable the company to deploy a fleet of four chemical bunker tankers, including the Golden Sirius, to support forthcoming sustainable fuel operations in this critical shipping hub, reinforcing its commitment to greener maritime solutions.
