Godby Shipping, a prominent Finnish operator, has announced a significant stride towards sustainable maritime transport by ordering two advanced methanol-ready Ro-Ro vessels. This strategic investment underscores the company’s commitment to embracing greener shipping solutions and reducing its environmental footprint in the evolving maritime landscape. The new vessels are designed to be at the forefront of decarbonization efforts, signaling a strong move towards future-proof operations.
Enhancing Fleet Capacity and Sustainability
The newly commissioned Ro-Ro vessels are set to revolutionize Godby Shipping’s cargo operations. Boasting an impressive 70-100% increase in cargo capacity compared to existing ships like Mimer and Midas, they promise enhanced efficiency while maintaining similar fuel consumption. These state-of-the-art ships will feature shore power connectivity and advanced battery systems, enabling zero-emission port stays and short voyages. Furthermore, they are meticulously prepared for future conversion to run on alternative marine fuels, including methanol, and equipped for waste-heat recovery.
Strategic Investment in Future Shipping
The order for these innovative methanol-ready vessels was placed with CIMC Raffles in China, with an additional option for two more ships, highlighting Godby Shipping’s long-term vision. Construction is slated to commence in 2027, with the first deliveries anticipated in late 2028 and early 2029. This forward-thinking approach positions Godby Shipping as a leader in adopting eco-friendly technologies within the maritime industry, aligning with global sustainability goals and a greener future.
