GFS Acquires First Bunker Tanker for West Africa Ops | Mariner News
Global Fuel Supply (GFS) has made a significant strategic move, acquiring its first dedicated bunker tanker, the MV Blue Alliance, to substantially enhance its West African maritime fuel supply operations. This landmark acquisition marks a pivotal moment for the company, solidifying its commitment to the Angolan market and regional bunkering services. The vessel is set to become the first in Angola equipped with a state-of-the-art Mass Flow Meter (MFM), ensuring unprecedented transparency and accuracy in fuel delivery.
Key Upgrades for Enhanced Efficiency
The newly acquired 7,695 DWT vessel, formerly MV Atticus, will undergo extensive dry-docking and technical upgrades in Dubai before commencing service as the MV Blue Alliance. These critical enhancements include the installation of a cutting-edge Mass Flow Meter, a pioneering feature for an Angolan bunker vessel, guaranteeing precise fuel measurement for clients. Additionally, a new ballast water treatment system will be fitted, aligning with modern environmental standards and boosting the tanker’s operational capabilities.
Boosting West African Maritime Logistics
This strategic vessel acquisition represents a significant step for Global Fuel Supply, transitioning from reliance on chartered tonnage to direct vessel ownership. According to Bijan Shahbaz, COO and founder of GFS, this achievement reflects immense pride and the team’s dedication. The MV Blue Alliance will play a crucial role in bolstering GFS’s physical fuel supply operation in Angola, enhancing reliability and efficiency for shipping lines operating in the dynamic West African shipping market. This investment underscores GFS’s long-term vision for growth and excellence in the marine fuels sector.
