Geogas to implement Syroco’s voyage optimisation technology

Geogas has announced plans to deploy Syroco’s voyage optimisation solution across its fleet of more than 50 vessels.

This decision follows a successful year-long collaboration with Syroco, during which the company’s Syroco Live technology was tested on Geogas’ two largest LPG carriers, Jean Raspail and Freycinet.

Syroco Live is a digital platform designed to enhance energy efficiency, fuel consumption, and carbon emissions through advanced weather routing and voyage optimisation.

The deployment of Syroco Live, the company’s primary product, enabled these vessels to navigate optimally, even in adverse weather conditions, ensuring the timely and safe delivery of cargo while reducing emissions.

The Syroco Live system utilises precise weather and sea data, along with advanced digital twins of the vessels, to determine the most efficient routes.

This integration of physics-based models and AI allows for real-time performance assessment, processing multiple voyage scenarios in minutes, which is quicker than traditional software solutions.

Geogas innovation manager Antoine Ratouis said: “We are thrilled to expand our relationship with Syroco, following the significant results and the positive feedback from masters obtained during the initial deployment onboard two of our LPG carriers in 2024. We look forward to similar results across our global fleet.”

Currently, Syroco Live is operational on more than 100 vessels worldwide, benefiting ship owners and charterers.

In addition to Syroco Live, the company provides Syroco Onwatch, a service that assists captains and crew with real-time decision-making and performance evaluations.

After each voyage, Syroco generates comprehensive reports that analyse operational efficiency and cost savings, enabling vessel owners and operators to make informed business decisions.

Syroco founder and CEO Alex Caizergues said: “Vessel efficiency is one of the best ways to green shipping fleets with immediate effect, irrespective of fuel used.

“We applaud Geogas for taking steps to support both the climate and their bottom line and look forward to rolling out Syroco Live across the rest of their fleet.”

In late 2024, Syroco secured €7.5m ($9.9m) in a Series A funding round led by impact investors Alter Equity and Blue Forward Fund, which will support further product development and expansion initiatives.

In February this year, Norsepower partnered with Syroco to enhance energy efficiency in commercial shipping.

This collaboration focuses on optimising fuel consumption, lowering carbon emissions, and delivering precise evaluations of savings generated by Norsepower Rotor Sails.
