Trust Score: 95

Dorian LPG Ltd. has confirmed an agreement with Hanwha Ocean for the construction of three 90,000 cbm dual-fuel Panamax Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs), scheduled for delivery in June, September, and December of 2030. The total value of the contracts is approximately $345 million.

The newbuildings are designed for operational flexibility and enhanced energy efficiency, featuring engines capable of running on both LPG and conventional low-sulphur fuels. They will also incorporate a Shaft Generator system for onboard power generation during sea passages, alongside optimized hull forms and main engines to accommodate larger-diameter propellers and energy-saving devices.

A key strategic element of these new VLGCs is their Panamax design, specifically noted by John C. Hadjipateras, Chairman, President, and CEO. This ensures the vessels retain the commercial flexibility to transit the original Panama Canal locks, providing potential operational advantages and route optionality in a dynamic global trade environment.

Hadjipateras stated that the newbuildings reflect a “measured approach to fleet renewal coupled with a capital allocation strategy that drives long-term shareholder value creation.” The 2030 delivery timeline positions these vessels to address future market demands and evolving environmental regulations as Dorian LPG continues its fleet modernization.
