Crowley Mariners Honored for Stena Immaculate Heroism & Safety
Crowley Mariners were recently celebrated for their outstanding heroism and safety efforts at the prestigious Admiral of the Ocean Sea (AOTOS) Awards. These annual honors recognize profound impact and courageous actions within the maritime industry, spotlighting American seafarers who go above and beyond to ensure vessel safety and the welfare of those at sea.
Stena Immaculate Crew’s Valiant Actions
The crew of the tanker Stena Immaculate received a Special Recognition Plaque for their extraordinary response to a collision and fire in the North Sea. When their vessel was struck by a foreign cargo ship, leading to a ruptured tank and fire, these dedicated seafarers swiftly contained the blaze, protected thousands of gallons of jet fuel, and ensured the safety of all 23 aboard. Their quick thinking prevented a major disaster and preserved the ship.
El Coquí’s Heroic Rescue at Sea
Further demonstrating remarkable maritime heroism, the crew aboard Crowley’s owned and operated vessel, El Coquí, earned the AOTOS Mariner’s Plaque. They responded to a U.S. Coast Guard distress call, diverting their route to rescue four U.S. boaters whose sailing vessel sank in the Atlantic Ocean north of the Dominican Republic. This selfless act underscores the unwavering commitment of Crowley crews to saving lives at sea.
These prestigious AOTOS awards highlight the critical role of maritime professionals in ensuring safety and responding to emergencies. The bravery and skill demonstrated by these Crowley mariners, both on the Stena Immaculate and El Coquí, serve as inspiring examples of unwavering dedication to duty and the welfare of others in challenging ocean environments.
