Corvus Energy Powers CMAL’s New Electric Ferries | Mariner News
Corvus Energy is set to revolutionize Scotland’s maritime transport by supplying advanced marine battery systems for seven new electric ferries commissioned by Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL). This landmark agreement, Corvus Energy’s largest by value to date, sees Remontowa Shipbuilding integrating cutting-edge energy storage solutions, marking a significant step towards sustainable shipping.
Powering Scotland’s Green Fleet
Each of the seven next-generation vessels will be equipped with a powerful 5.7MWh Corvus Dolphin NxtGen energy storage system (ESS), totaling an impressive 40MWh capacity across the fleet. These high-performance marine batteries are central to CMAL’s Small Vessel Replacement Programme (SVRP), aimed at modernizing Scotland’s ferry fleet. The initiative directly supports the region’s commitment to decarbonizing transport, enhancing island connectivity, and significantly reducing environmental impact.
A Greener Future for Maritime Transport
The deployment of these fully electric ferries represents a substantial leap forward in maritime sustainability. Corvus Energy’s lightweight ESS technology is crucial for achieving the high environmental standards required by CMAL, facilitating a cleaner, more efficient operational future. Deliveries for the battery systems are scheduled to commence in 2026 and continue through 2028, ensuring a steady transition to a more eco-friendly transportation network for the Scottish islands.
