Concordia Damen Refits ‘Hirschhorn’ for Enhanced Lifetime
Concordia Damen has initiated a significant `Concordia Damen refit` project for Reederei Deymann’s dry cargo vessel, the ‘Hirschhorn’. This undertaking, now at Concordia Damen’s Werkendam yard, underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable fleet renewal and enhanced operational performance. The image illustrates a vital inland dry cargo vessel, similar to those benefiting from such advanced refurbishment.
Propulsion and Accommodation Modernization
The refit involves a complete renewal of the aft ship. The existing single-engine configuration is replaced with a modern twin-shaft propulsion system, powered by two new, fuel-efficient diesel-electric 630 KWE engines. The accommodation and wheelhouse are also being completely rebuilt, offering greater comfort, improved ergonomics, and superior visibility, meeting modern operational standards.
Boosting Efficiency and Sustainability
This strategic refurbishment will significantly extend the ‘Hirschhorn’s’ operational lifetime, enhancing propulsion efficiency and reliability. Expected outcomes include reduced fuel consumption and emissions for a greener footprint. The new configuration also enables improved shallow water capability, boosting the vessel’s versatility across waterways.
Bert Duijzer, Technical Director at Concordia Damen, affirms: ‘This project shows how a well-planned refit can give a reliable vessel a new life. We are proud to support Reederei Deymann in keeping their fleet efficient, sustainable and competitive.’ Concordia Damen consistently blends sustainability with smart shipbuilding solutions.
